Synopsis

In the midst of a tense dinner party, Alex and Eb’s relationship quietly unravels. While the guests laugh and share stories, an undercurrent of conflict simmers between the couple, expressed through a recurring argument that threads throughout the evening. Alex’s efforts and presence go unnoticed, while Eb’s attention and care are subtly lavished on others. Meanwhile, Alex sits idly by, wondering why they have not received the same level of care.

As the night unfolds, Alex begins to recognize the imbalance and their own diminishing sense of self. A moment of clarity reveals a jarring revelation: Eb doesn’t truly see Alex for who they are, only a reflection shaped by assumption and convenience.

In a final, transformative moment, Alex reclaims their identity through a cathartic dance, mimicking the grace and freedom of a bird. As the last argument fades, Alex no longer needs to speak; they fly.

Why We're Fundraising

Many attendees of Cofa House are involved in the arts, including theatre, film production, dance, and design. We had a vision of creating a collaborative work of art in the form of a short film entitled The Argument. The film features Alex, an artist struggling with feelings of alienation and isolation. We use surrealism, abstraction, movement, and a healthy dose of uncomfortable reality to explore their story arc.

Cofa House is a community-funded project. To make our film sustainable, we've decided to hold a fundraiser for The Argument. We're looking for support to take care of cast and crew during shoot days, and rent a few essential pieces of equipment. Your support for this project will help fund a collaborative arts project from a thriving community in the Cleveland area.

Breakdown

Crew - $1600

Grip and Gaff, Sound recordist, Animator, Set Design, and other essential roles on the film.

Equipment - $1000

Over the 4 days of shooting we have planned, we will need extra lighting equipment, camera lenses, and Grip equipment that's standard for safety and procedure on set.

Food - $400

Per day, we're looking at $100 to have food prepared for the cast and crew. A few of the days we're shooting, we'll be serving two meals along with snacks.

The community at Cofa House has decided to make a movie because we believe The Argument can be a catalyst for more creative projects from this community. We've fostered many ongoing projects thus far, and want to continue showing what we're capable of. This film will spotlight the versatility and depth of the incredible people who attend dinners.
