Freedom Has Fine Print. Help Us Make It Easier to Navigate.

A prison sentence has an end date. The challenges of rebuilding a life after incarceration often do not.

Imagine walking out of prison with the determination to start over.

You want to find a job, secure a place to live, reconnect with your family, and become a productive member of your community.

But where do you begin?

An employment application asks about your criminal history. A housing application comes back denied. You need identification, transportation, healthcare, or information about your legal rights.

Every answer seems to lead to another question.

And the information you need is often scattered across government websites, complicated legal documents, outdated resource directories, and organizations that may not be able to help.

You have served your sentence. But the fine print of freedom is still shaping your future.

That is why we created Collateral Consequences: Freedom’s Fine Print.

Turning complicated information into practical guidance

Hosted by Larenzo, Collateral Consequences is an independent educational podcast exploring the barriers people face after incarceration and the policies, systems, and opportunities that shape their lives.

Through lived experience, research, interviews, and accessible storytelling, we examine issues such as:

Employment and housing barriers after incarceration.
Record clearing and opportunities under California law.
Civic participation and the restoration of rights.
Rehabilitation, education, and successful community reintegration.

We believe information should be understandable, accessible, and useful to the people who need it most.

Our mission is not simply to discuss these challenges. It is to help people understand their options and identify practical next steps.

From a podcast to a community resource network

Collateral Consequences is part of a broader vision connected to The Reentry Village, an initiative dedicated to making reentry information and resources easier to find and navigate.

Through The Reentry Village, we are developing educational materials, resource navigation tools, and practical guidance designed to help returning community members and their families find information relevant to their circumstances.

Our goal is to connect meaningful storytelling with accessible educational resources so people can move from understanding a problem to identifying possible solutions.

Because knowing that a resource exists is only the beginning. People also need to know how to access it.

Why we are raising $10,000

We are seeking $10,000 in community support to strengthen the next phase of Collateral Consequences and its approved educational and outreach activities.

Your contribution can help us:

Produce more educational media. Support research, interviews, recording, editing, and production of podcast episodes addressing the real-world challenges of life after incarceration.

Develop accessible educational resources. Create and improve practical, research-informed materials that help audiences understand reentry-related information and available services.

Expand our community reach. Help us connect with service providers, community organizations, and audiences who can benefit from our content and resources.

Strengthen our production capacity. Support essential project equipment, technology, and other approved operating expenses that allow us to produce and distribute educational media consistently.

Our initial $10,000 goal is a funding milestone toward building a sustainable, community-supported media initiative.

Every contribution helps us move that mission forward.

Become a sustaining supporter

You do not have to make a large contribution to participate.

Whether you contribute $10, $25, $50, $100, or an amount that works for you, your donation supports the continued development of independent educational media and accessible reentry information.

A recurring monthly gift helps us plan future production, maintain continuity, and reduce our dependence on one-time fundraising campaigns.

Businesses and organizations can also explore larger contributions, matching gifts, and community partnership opportunities.

Your support helps us turn research into understandable information, stories into meaningful conversations, and educational content into practical resources.

Help us write a different chapter

Life after incarceration should not be defined solely by the mistakes of the past or by the difficulty of finding reliable information.

People deserve access to knowledge, opportunities, and resources that can help them make informed decisions about their futures.

With your support, we can continue bringing important conversations into the open and make reentry information more accessible to the communities who need it.

Join us in making the fine print of freedom easier to understand.

Make a one-time donation, become a monthly supporter, or share this campaign with a business, organization, or individual who believes in expanding access to education and opportunity.

Your contribution helps us continue the work.

Thank you for supporting Collateral Consequences: Freedom’s Fine Print.
