FAQ

Q: Why not just pay for Google Workspace or Microsoft 365?
A: Those platforms cost $6-20/user/month forever (subscriptions never end), give your data to advertisers and law enforcement, can suspend accounts arbitrarily, and disappear when you can't pay. Community-controlled infrastructure costs more upfront but creates permanent assets with no ongoing fees.

Q: What happens if Gifted Dreamers goes away?
A: The infrastructure stays in community control. We transfer all administrative access, documentation, and training. Communities can maintain independently or hire other technical support - but they own it, not us.

Q: How technical do community members need to be?
A: Daily use requires no technical knowledge (simpler than Google Drive). We train 3-5 community tech stewards for basic maintenance. Complex issues can be handled by any Linux sysadmin - no dependency on Gifted Dreamers specifically.

Q: Is this legal? Won't authorities be suspicious?
A: Privacy is not a crime. Nextcloud is used by governments, universities, and corporations worldwide. Communities have every right to control their own data and avoid corporate surveillance. We provide clear legal frameworks and transparency about lawful use.

Q: Can this really work offline?
A: Yes. Nextcloud clients sync files locally, so you can work offline and sync changes when internet returns. We also deploy mesh network backup communication in Phase 2 for true resilience.

Q: What about ongoing costs?
A: 3-year hosting is prepaid in initial deployment. After that, communities can continue current hosting (~$40/month) or migrate to different providers - they control everything. Training includes budget planning for long-term sustainability.

Q: How do you choose pilot communities?
A: Priority to disaster-affected communities, communities facing surveillance/harassment, and rural/under-resourced areas lacking digital infrastructure. Applications reviewed for genuine community need, capacity to participate in training, and commitment to democratic governance.
