Hello, Hola, Bonjour!

We are NiNo and The Parliament Crew and are excited to announce this year’s art piece….COQUÍ!

Honored to receive our 4th Burning Man Honoraria Grant, COQUÍ continues the line of art pieces created by Puerto Rican artist, NiNo (aka Maestro), whose fundamental goal is to promote climate change awareness in his homeland.

So, who is COQUÍ?

COQUÍ is a fun, solar-powered, interactive installation in the shape of an oversized frog that will illuminate at night, calling all burners to explore it…inside and out.
During the day, explorers are invited to find their way into COQUÍ where they will find themselves transported to a rainforest in Puerto Rico, surrounded by the mating call of the indigenous frog.

The indigenous Taíno people of the island believed that a goddess created the frog to forever call out the name of her son, Coquí, who was taken from her by the Gods.

Given the environmental challenges the people of the island have experienced in the last several years, we chose COQUÍ as our forever call out to express the immediacy of taking action to conserve and protect the precious resources of Puerto Rico. In making the piece solar-powered, we also hope to continue promoting climate change awareness.

We are eager to continue our building process but we still need our community’s help!
