About "COVID, Climate & Our Future!"

Sista Creatives Rising's 3rd Art & Mind event focuses on themes of COVID, climate & disability, their ongoing effects on disabled ВІРОС creatives, and how it's affected their art. Through this theme, we feel it's imperative to highlight Indigenous experiences about COVID & Climate, with our event underscoring the impact on Native American communities and the plight of Indigenous Palestinians as they suffer from loss of shelter, food, clean water, famine, rampant disease, and loss of their ecosystem. Via a 22-minute documentary short featuring three BIPOC, disabled & immunocompromised artists, expert speakers, panels, plus team & community features, we hope to raise awareness about the ongoing effects of COVID-19 and the rise of Long COVID, disability rights issues, displacement, and environmental damage. We educate attendees on how these issues have caused isolation for many disabled artists and how art can be used as a tool to fight injustice. We hope you can join us in understanding and hearing these stories and feel encouraged to take action for humanity to reach peace & prosperity through the arts.

A Focus on Disability Accessibility & COVID Awareness

All “Art & Mind” have focused on disability, health disparities amongst multi-marginalized communities, and the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on everyone, including disabled, immunocompromised and chronically ill folks of color. We are disabled and immunocompromised ourselves. As a result, we are still masking, and "Still COVIDing." See our "Black & Still COVIDing" Story Project

Fundraising $1500 for The Sistas Uprising Fund - MicroGrants for ВIРОС Artists. Donate and/or get FREE tickets above.

We hope to fundraise $1,500 for The Sistas Uprising Fund leading up to the event, distributed as five microgrants in 2026. During our 2023 event, we fundraised $1600+ for the first Sistas Uprising Fund with a goal of $1000. Eight microgrants were distributed in 2024.

About Sista Creatives Rising (SCR) & the "Art & Mind" series

(SCR) is a 100% virtual project (not a non-profit or LLC!) and concept founded by Black, invisibly disabled mother-daughter duo Claire Jones & Amaranthia Sepia. We seek to strengthen our community through virtual events, including disability-accessible event, "Art & Mind." Through short films, 3D virtual galleries, speaking engagements, and free resources led by therapists and disability activists, "Art & Mind" highlights artists while fundraising for our microgrant program, The Sistas Uprising Fund.

All "Art & Mind" events are free, and people can donate to The Sistas Uprising Fund if they choose. We show that virtual content has value and can provide innovative solutions for the often-overlooked disabled community.

Our Frog Mascot, Lilette!

Lilette is inspired by the San José Cochran frog (also known as glass frogs), a species of speckled blueish-green frogs from Costa Rica that are disappearing, but experts are unsure why. We felt that these frogs reflect the issues that are going on with disabled and Covid-conscious people who are losing access to the world, becoming sicker and further disabled, resulting in isolation and loss of safety & freedom. Frogs are losing their homes due to deforestation, and they are susceptible to climate change, and are dying and becoming sick in massive numbers.

ACCESSIBILITY

With knowledge gained from the disability community, COVID conscious community, lived experience and guidance from disability-focused residency, Socially Distant Art, “Art & Mind” shows incorporate several aspects of virtual accessibility.

Our team accomplishes tasks such as content warnings, open captioning, closed captioning for YouTube, and tech assistance during the Zoom reception. Auto captioning is available via zoom for live speakers. Shows from 2023 forward include live ASL interpretation. All speakers will Self-ID before presenting. This is also included in our documentaries. Artist videos contain artwork descriptions for their featured pieces. All gallery works via Kunstmatrix are accompanied with image descriptions and video descriptions. As “Art & Mind” grows, we hope to gain enough funding for CART and one day, audio descriptions!
