This campaign is fifteen years in the making and I am so honored to be leading the charge!

My name is Katy (Fetters) Gaastra, Founder & Executive Director of Cerebral Palsy Strong. I kicked off this campaign by committing myself to cycling 100km in honor of our $100,000 goal. In just one week, we raised $2,500 and I am so grateful for the support and excited to see how far we can take this!

My Why: I was born with hemiplegic cerebral palsy (CP), a physical disability that primarily affects how I move in the world and I grew up wanting a friend with CP but it took me until I was about 20 to meet those few friends in person. I've asked myself why that is and longed to change that reality for others.

This is what has inspired our flagship event, The CP Social, back in 2019 and everything that came after over the last five years.

The CP Social creates a space that doesn't typically exist for disabled people. One that provides a sense of belonging among peers. It's an opportunity to make lifelong connections and build community for and with adults with cerebral palsy in a more informal, in-person setting. 

I have experienced the magic of being in a room full of other people like me and it's my dream to create that moment for others.

This campaign means so much to me because it will set the tone for what the future of Cerebral Palsy Strong will look like and what we're able to achieve for our community.
