A Step in the Right Direction is a grassroots organization dedicated to inspiring, growing, and strengthening communities within Central Columbus, with a special focus on the Westside.

Over the past four years, we have proudly served the community, reaching over 9,000 individuals with food, clothing, hygiene products, and connections to other resources. Our goal is to continue fostering community growth, enhancing access to resources, and supporting family strengthening and expansion. We aim to increase our service reach from 5,000 to 10,000 individuals for 2025.

Our Three Pillars

Health Inequalities: SRD promotes self-sufficiency and improves the quality of life for underserved populations.

Family Engagement: SRD fosters healthy family relationships by providing essential support and engagement.

Workforce Development: SRD nurtures individuals through workforce training and connections to employment opportunities, contributing to community growth with prospective employees, businesses, and local areas.

Our History

Founded in 2019, SRD initially focused on supporting formerly incarcerated individuals as they reintegrated into their communities with various resources and programs. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted additional community needs, prompting SRD to expand its services to assist other underserved populations.
