About the Cutest Baby Contest
The Zeta Phi Beta Delta Kappa Zeta Chapter is hosting a “Cutest Baby Contest” to support the International Women of Color (IWC) Initiatives. Some of IWC Initiatives include supporting the Cape Coast Children’s Library located in Ghana.

History of International Women of Color

International Women of Color is one of five components of Zetas Helping Other People Excel (Z-HOPE). The programming benefits include support for those with AIDS and those caring for AIDS victims, literacy programs, building water wells, donating rice and much more. We have built more than 52 water wells throughout Ghana. We have recently launched a Well Maintenance program to ensure that our wells are consistently functioning and providing potable water to the villages. We also built a clinic at the Afua Kobi Apem Senior School for girls in Ghana. Enrollment at the school went from 1,200 to 2,000 after opening the clinic. Villagers can also visit the health center and often do. The clinic has dramatically improved the health of the girls and their families.

Cape Coast Castle Children’s Library in Ghana

The Cape Coast Castle was built by the Swedes in 1653 and later taken over by the British. This historic castle was an integral part of the slave trade and housed millions of slaves before they would depart from Ghana through the “Gate of No Return.” The castle houses the West African Historical Museum, established by the Smithsonian Institute in collaboration with the Ghanaian Government in 1994.

The Cape Coast Children’s Library is also located within the historic Cape Coast Castle.

Since 2002 Zeta Phi Beta donated over 41,000 books and magazines to the Cape Coast Children’s Library. Due to a serious storm the Cape Coast Children’s Library was severely damaged which resulted in a loss of all materials housed. The International Women of Color Committee wants to focus on the following:

-Repairs to the Cape Coast Library

-Rebuilding the pool of library books and magazines

Triumphant Zeta Mary Singletary, a past director of the ZHOPE International Women of Color was very instrumental in the Zeta efforts to help address women and children‘s needs abroad. She helped Zeta partner with UPS to donate gently used books to various parts of Africa. Take a look of a short video of her impact in Malawi.
