The DandeLion Difference (D2) Initiative is a grassroots effort to improve maternal health care and birth outcomes in Alabama – the third highest state in the nation in maternal death rates and that consistently trends higher than the national average in all poor maternal and neonatal outcomes. With the help of community partners and private donors, we are making a difference one mother and baby at a time by:

1) Effectively Educating and Equipping more Professional Doulas and Midwives whose practices are proven to significantly improve birth outcomes and maternal health of women and babies, and, ultimately, save lives.

2) Virtue and Reproductive Health Awareness, Education and Mentoring of young women to improve their sense of self-worth and promote informed and wise decision making; targeted to middle school through college-aged girls/women.

3) Removing Financial Barriers for low income, single moms and women of color who are statistically proven to experience a disproportionate number of birth complications, poor maternal outcomes, disparities and death, and whose infants may not even survive to see their first birthday.
