Maria Jeannette Gargiulo, beloved mother, grandmother, “Memom,” sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, December 3, 2025.

Born in Hoboken, New Jersey, on January 15, 1929, Maria was the cherished daughter of Rose and Gaetano Romano, immigrants from Monte San Giacomo, Campania, Italy.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank, and her siblings Ann, Patsy, Petie, Frankie, Charlie and Danny.

She is survived by her sister, Mella and sister-in-law Rose and her children Nick (Peggy), Maria, Annette (Paul), Ralph (Alison), and Frank Jr. (Tammy); ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Maria lived a long, healthy, and faith-filled life. Known affectionately in her senior community as “the walker,” she took daily walks well into her later years. She kept her wit, sharp mind, and spirited personality until her final days. Maria was also a natural caregiver—always offering comfort, encouragement, and quiet strength to the people around her. Her compassion and gentle presence left a lasting impact on everyone she touched.

A skilled seamstress, Maria retired from Air Cruisers in Wall, NJ (now Safran Aerosystems). When asked about her hobbies, she always answered simply: her greatest joy was her family. A devout Catholic, she prayed the Rosary daily and lived her faith with humility and sincerity.

In retirement, Maria and her husband Frank enjoyed traveling, especially to their home in Freeport, Grand Bahama. Yet nothing meant more to her than time spent with family. She was famous for her meatballs served at the Wall Pop Warner football stands, loved cheering at football games, and was a devoted tennis fan—always rooting for Rafael Nadal.

Maria raised her family in Union City before moving to West Belmar in 1963, eventually settling in the Sea Girt Estates area of Wall Township in 1965. There, she and Frank built a warm, welcoming home and became deeply rooted in the community.

Maria will be remembered for her strength, her faith, her kindness, and the profound love she shared with her family and all who knew her.
