IT'S TIME FOR PLAN C - JOIN US!

Our new show, PLAN C, jumps between 1628 and right now. An Imperial post office in Brussels hiding a spy network and a modern hardware store in West Virginia with a secret. It’s about breaking the rules before they break you.

Making this kind of theater takes guts and it takes your support. 85% of our budget is secure - through our school residencies, and grants. But like many tiny, mighty non-profits, Hook & Eye has felt the impact as recent changes in grant priorities and funding streams have reduced available support. New works like PLAN C don't happen without a community behind it.

We need your support now. Over 40 theater artists have contributed to making this piece since we began work on it in December 2023 (it’s our largest production to date!) Every dollar you give goes directly to paying artists who build with us from the ground up. Your support closes the final gap and gets us from almost there… to opening night!

THE HOOK

When justice is nowhere to be found, how do you keep hope alive—and who dares to deliver it?

PLAN C is a darkly funny, time-collapsing caper of resistance, resourcefulness, and rebellion, where history collides with the here-and-now, and women running things aren’t nearly as quiet as they seem.

In 1620 Brussels, imperial postmistress Alexandrine Von Taxis moves more than mail through the empire’s hands during The Thirty Years’ War. In present-day West Virginia, Charley Gibson runs her family’s hardware store, where lockers hide more than tools. One misplaced letter. One break-in. As 17th-century espionage collides with a small-town network, PLAN C exposes how rebellion takes shape—through wit, nerve, and crossing a line.

Using movement, original music, and ensemble-driven storytelling PLAN C theatrically flips between the two eras, to bring history and the present into dynamic conversation. Using our signature devising style, this nine-person ensemble (double cast for maximal mischief) brings to life a story of whispers, defiance, and impossible choices. Our narratives slide back and forth from past and present, between truth and fiction to create a madcap theatrical experience that reflects the complexities of the present moment.

THE EYE

While all our pieces explore history and science, we expanded our lens to explore the concept of The Overton Window, the spectrum of ideas on public policy and social issues considered acceptable by the general public at a given time. We are constantly asking ourselves and our audiences:

What would you do?
What line are you willing to cross?
Who even makes the lines?

We seek to hold theatrically both the gut punch of injustice when those who should be caught and held accountable aren’t –vs. the wild joy of putting yourself on the line for something you deeply believe in at the same time.

This play offers a counterpoint to the doom scroll— a small, insistent voice that says, keep doing, keep going. We celebrate the vastness of our shared experiences and the complexity of our choices – both the personal and universal. It’s a reminder that defiance, connection, laughter, and local acts of resistance matter.

HOW WE DO IT

Hook & Eye Theater makes new plays knit from a collage of impossible-to-imagine things fastened together to jostle the past, query the now, and tease the everyday.

We create daring, inventive theater that blends humor and heart to tackle big ideas with wit, grit, and imagination. Every artist in our ensemble is a generator of ideas and for this piece specifically, a co-author of the work. Together, we craft visceral experiences designed to spark joy, curiosity and civic dialogue.
