Local news needs your support
As an independent student newspaper and the paper of record for the city of Berkley, the Daily Cal has been communicating important updates during this pandemic to both students and local community members even though we have no access to our facilities due to the closure of the UC Berkeley campus. Our student journalists have constantly provided updates while also juggling the impacts of COVID-19 in their own lives.
Berkeley community members and UC Berkeley students rely on The Daily Californian for valuable information. In addition to offering breaking information to community members, we also report on issues relevant for students. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Daily Cal has continually updated on testing policies, online education and in-person class statuses, along with our vehement advocacy for partial refunds. All of that is on top of our coverage of state policies, protective equipment shortages and local businesses. We cover the communities that we are nestled in, but student newsrooms have the added burden of covering the universities just as thoroughly.
The funds from this campaign will go toward maintaining a local news organization that continues to clearly communicate important information during times like these. It will support the continuation of training to our student journalists, who will soon be providing you news at a national scale.
Despite being scattered across the state and country right now, Daily Cal journalists are still committed to reporting and are updating our website consistently. Your support is essential to maintaining this important coverage.
