Come out for the Denver Community Film Fest! The night will feature a reception, screening & post-film discussion of the documentary Join or Die on June 12th, 2025.

About Join or Die: This powerful film traces the half-century tale of America’s civic decline through the journey of renowned social scientist Robert Putnam. Based on his groundbreaking research in Bowling Alone, the documentary explores the erosion of personal connections in America through the lens of declining membership in community based organizations. The film offers insights that may hold the key to addressing today’s challenges to democracy.

The event will take place at the Holiday Theater (2644 W 32nd Ave), a 100 year old Northside theater currently run by the Denver Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA). This will be a community-focused gathering designed to spark meaningful discussions about civic engagement, community building, and ways to strengthen all of our neighborhoods. The film’s director will even be joining us via Zoom for the post film Q&A.

Tickets are FREE but an RSVP is required. Due to limited space please only reserve tickets if you are planning to attend. We strongly encourage participants to make a donation during registration or bring canned goods to support the Bienvenidos Food Bank program.

¡Acompáñanos en el Festival Comunitario de Cine en Denver! La noche incluirá una reunión, presentación y plática sobre el documental “ Join o Die ” (Únete o muere) con subtítulos en español el jueves, 12 de junio de 2025.

Sobre “Join or Die”: Este poderoso documental sigue la historia de medio siglo del descenso cívico en los Estados Unidos a través de la experiencia del reconocido científico social Robert Putnam. Basado en sus innovadores estudios en “Bowling Alone” (Jugando boliche solo), el documental explora la erosión de las conexiones personales en los Estados Unidos a través de un perspectiva de reducción en la
afiliación a organizaciones comunitarias. El documental ofrece enseñanzas que podrían ser la clave para abordar los desafíos actuales para la democracia.

El evento se llevará a cabo en el Teatro Holiday (2644 W 32nd Avenue), un bello teatro de 100 años de antigüedad en el vecindario de Northside que el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MCA, por sus siglas en inglés) de Denver actualmente administra. Esta reunión se enfocará en la comunidad y está diseñada para fomentar pláticas significativas sobre la participación cívica, el desarrollo de la comunidad y maneras de
fortalecer todos nuestros vecindarios. La directora del documental se unirá por Zoom durante la sesión de preguntas después de la presentación del filme.
