An estimated one in five Californians has a past arrest or conviction on their record. Thousands of people return home from incarceration with hope — but without a roadmap. They face a maze of fragmented resources, long waitlists, confusing eligibility rules, and systems that were never designed to help them rebuild. The result is predictable: people fall through the cracks, families struggle, and communities lose the potential of individuals who are ready to succeed.

Diane, Dignifi’s product advisor, is formerly incarcerated and had to visit nine different rental assistance organizations before connecting with one she was eligible for. I have personally witnessed people coming home to dangerous, exploitative jobs, and sleeping in their cars just to avoid complete homelessness.

Dignifi is changing that — because like Diane, we’ve experienced the same barriers.

Our founder, Danny Yoon, and I both know what it feels like to come home determined to rebuild, only to be met with confusion, closed doors, and a system that expects you to succeed without giving you the tools to do so. We’ve felt the weight of not knowing where to find housing, how to access healthcare, or who to trust for guidance. And we promised ourselves: no one should have to navigate reentry alone ever again.

Dignifi is a California tech nonprofit organization building a first-of-its-kind reentry navigation platform that connects people to the housing, healthcare, employment, legal support, and community services they need — in the exact county they return to. This isn’t just a project. It’s our lived experience turned into a solution.
