When School's Out, Hunger Doesn't Take a Vacation

Help The Pantry provide nutritious meals and kid-friendly groceries to more than 5,000 local children this summer through our School's Out Supplement (SOS) Program. For children who rely on free or reduced-price school meals, the end of the school year creates a significant gap. Without the breakfasts and lunches they receive at school, families must find ways to provide additional meals every day throughout the summer. For many, this is simply not possible without help.

That's why The Pantry's School's Out Supplement (SOS) Program is so important.

Each summer, SOS provides local families with school-age children extra allotments of nutritious, kid-friendly foods during the 10 weeks when school is out. Families receive supplemental groceries including yogurt, pasta, peanut butter, tuna, and other healthy staples that help ensure children continue to have access to the nourishment they need to grow, learn, and thrive.

The need continues to grow.

Since launching in 2019, SOS has served more than 27,600 children. Last summer alone, 3,962 children benefited from the program, and enough food was distributed to provide nearly 12,000 meals. Today, a projected 4,500 children served through SOS in summer 2026 - a 14% increase over last year.
