Our goal is to raise funds this summer to provide Immunocompromised Door Hangers to patients, families, and medical facilities around the country in 2025.

Immunocompromised Association promotes awareness, education, and support for immunocompromised individuals to reduce their inherent health risks in the community. We are dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with primary or secondary immunodeficiencies, autoimmune disorders, transplant recipients, and anyone with a health condition who would benefit from our mission. We welcome all people with a compromised immune system and their caregivers/care partners to join us as they are for safer socialization at our virtual events and to support each other in self-advocacy.

Our organization was initially created as Think of me Please® in early 2019, one year before the COVID-19 pandemic, to stop the preventable spread of illnesses. After multiple immunocompromised individuals in our community reported exposure to viruses from others in their lives over the holidays, it became our mission to make sure this never happens again.

Today, we serve immunocompromised people around the country by building community and developing educational and advocacy materials like our Immunocompromised Door Hangers. We host regular online events including bingo, art classes, and writer's workshops and a Facebook group, the ImmuKNOWnetwork, to build places for the immunocompromised community to connect, relax, learn, and have some fun together. We also host an annual, virtual New Year's Eve Ball Drop to celebrate the new year together without the risks of coming together in person. We invite our community to show up as they are, from wherever they are, because nobody should be left behind any day of the year.

What is the Immunocompromised Door Hanger?

We developed the Immunocompromised Door Hanger as a tool to communicate a person's immunocompromised status to visitors entering a room without sharing personal health information. They will be distributed both directly to immunocompromised individuals and families and to the medical facilities treating immunocompromised patients. These door hangers are currently available double-sided in English and Spanish with intention to translate and print them in additional languages as we have the funding to do so.

How does the Immunocompromised Door Hanger work?

The Immunocompromised Door Hanger can protect patients in healthcare settings who would not otherwise be flagged as vulnerable to illnesses. They remind healthcare providers and visitors entering the room simple recommendations on how to avoid unintentionally spreading bacteria, viruses, and other airborne particles that can lead to infection. Immunocompromised Door Hangers can also support immunocompromised people in their communities by reminding any visitor of simple precautions to show care for immunocompromised people.

Why donate?

A compromised immune system leaves a person vulnerable to illness, sometimes dangerously so. This can make it difficult for immunocompromised people to live their daily lives, as ordinary exposure to commonplace pathogens can be more difficult to recover from and can lead to serious illness or death.

No immunocompromised person should have to worry about unnecessary exposure to illnesses. Our intention is to alleviate the burden of immunocompromised people having to explain their health condition to visitors in their own spaces.
