I'm Sara and for the past 8 years, we have been raising money during Ramadan and sending it directly to families in Afghanistan who are living on less than $1 a day.

We do this through DOST. a small non-profit we started to help people back home. The way it works is simple: we raise money, identify families in need through our trusted network on the ground, and send donations directly to them. Our goal every year is for 100% of your donation to reach families we do our best to cover all event and operational costs ourselves.

Last year, we raised $5,226 and helped 7 families in Afghanistan with education, surgery, medication, and food.

We've done this every single year since 2018 sometimes bigger, sometimes smaller, but every year the money got there.

Some years we distributed care packages rice, flour, oil to hundreds of families. Other years we covered medical expenses, education costs, and daily essentials. Some years we published a formal report. Other years it was more informal. we collected money from friends through Venmo, sent it directly, and reached out to donors personally with where their money went. Not every year made it to Medium, but every year we made sure people knew where their donations ended up.
