About the 2026 Dowling Read-a-thon

During this annual event, we invite students to participate in reading and, when possible, collecting pledges to help support special activities at Dowling Elementary. The money raised by the Read-a-Thon provides mini grants to teachers for supplies and virtual field trips in addition to other fun school activities and support. Not simply about fundraising, this event is about sparking a curiosity for reading!

Pledges, Matching Gifts and Fundraising Goals

Our fundraising goal for this Read-a-Thon in 2026 is $21,000. The funds raised in the Read-a-Thon represent almost 2/3 of the PTO's annual budget, which exists to support staff/students and enhance the school community.

Donations are tax deductible, as the Dowling PTO is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization.

Read-a-thon Dates

Reading Period Start: Friday, March 6

Reading Period End: Friday, March 27

Pledge envelopes* due: Tuesday, April 7

Closing Celebration 🎉: April (TBA)

*Large envelopes were sent home with students. Your student(s) will be entered into drawings for prizes just for turning in their envelopes! No money is necessary – we just hope that your student reads a lot!
