It’s that time of year again, DRD fans! We’re back for another Skate-a-thon, and this year, we’re rolling for something especially important: our skaters and the place we call home.

Life doesn’t always go according to plan. An unexpected medical bill, an injury, a job loss, a change in family circumstances, or simply a stretch of difficult times can put someone in a position where even the things they love become difficult to afford. For our skaters, that can mean having to choose between everyday necessities and the dues, gear, or other costs that allow them to keep doing the sport they love.

That’s why we’re bringing new energy to our Skater Hardship Fund.

Originally established in 2010, the Skater Hardship Fund exists to provide financial assistance to league members experiencing temporary hardship because of a major life event or unexpected circumstances. Assistance can help with things like monthly dues, gear repair or replacement, and eligible expenses related to derby injuries.

We believe that when times get tough, nobody should have to walk away from their community just because they’re having a hard time making ends meet. Roller derby is more than a sport. It’s a community, a support system, and a place where people find friendship, confidence, belonging, and joy. We want to help make sure our skaters can stay a part of it.

But this year, we’re also looking beyond our skaters.

Our second goal is to make improvements to the Rollerdome. The Rollerdome is where we practice, compete, gather, cheer each other on, and build the community that makes derby so special. Your support will help us invest in improvements that make our home rink better for the skaters, fans, volunteers, and everyone who walks through its doors.

Every donation brings us a little closer to both goals — supporting our people and improving our home.

Whether you’ve been cheering us on for years or you’re discovering us for the first time, we’d love for you to be part of this year’s Skate-a-thon. Every dollar makes a difference, and every donation helps us keep our skaters rolling, our community strong, and our Rollerdome moving forward.

Thank you for believing in roller derby, supporting our skaters, and helping us build a stronger future together.

Let’s lace up, hit the track, and keep rolling! 🛼❤️
