The 2025 Virginia Dual Power Gathering is a weekend campground event for community organizers from across Virginia, Appalachia, and the Mid-Atlantic. This event provides a space to network, workshop, strategize, and skill-share for dual power in our region. All levels of experience are welcome, from longtime organizers to folks who are completely new to movements. To attend, click on "Attend" (above).

About

This gathering will take place from October 10-12 at a campground in Northern Virginia, about 2 hours outside of Washington, D.C. We will release the address of the campground to folks who RSVP in the weeks leading up to the gathering. The site is located near a train station, to which we can provide limited shuttling service. There have been several Dual Power Gatherings in other regions of the U.S. To learn about them, click here.

The structure of this program is an "unconference." This means that active participation by attendees will fuel its success. Before the gathering, we will collectively create a schedule of sessions for the weekend. Everyone attending will have the opportunity to add sessions to the schedule, and there will be open spaces for spontaneous additions during the weekend. We aim for a mix of structured and unstructured events, including roundtable discussions, facilitated conversations, hands-on skill-shares, and presentations. You can also expect shared meals, river frolicking, folk dancing, live music, and collaborative art making.

Logistics/FAQ

We will be staying in cabins that have about 10 beds per cabin. There will also be a collective kitchen and common space.
Cabin lodging will be available starting Friday evening (October 10-13). The programmed portion of the event will kick off promptly on Saturday morning and wrap up by Sunday midday.
If you want to stay in your own tent, you will have to arrange your own campsite in the park. The park doesn't allow tents at the main cabin site.
Vegan food will be made available to participants. Participants are welcome to bring their own provisions, but we may not be able to provide refrigerator or freezer space.
The grounds do not allow pets. However, service animals are more than welcome.
Families with children are encouraged to attend. Past gatherings have had youth-organized sessions, allowing kids and teens to take an active role in creating the event. Please let us know if you would like any help with childcare during the gathering.
Throughout the event, we will encourage autonomy, self-organization, and creativity. Bring your coolers, fun activities, art supplies, instruments, and ideas!
Participation in the gathering is open to everyone, regardless of whether you are camping. Feel free to participate in any activity or session on any day that you choose.
Entrance to the park itself costs $20 per vehicle for a 7 day entrance pass per vehicle. If we have funds available we will commit to covering this for anyone for who it's an issue.

How to get involved?

Join us! To attend, click on "Donate and Tickets" (above) and select one of the RSVP ticket options.
Volunteer! We will need a lot of help to pull this off. If you are interested in helping prepare for or volunteer during the event, please reach out to us at DualPowerGathering@proton.me and we will get you connected. We will especially need help with rides to and from public transport, cooking and meal prep, and outreach and media.
Contribute! Like all aspects of this gathering, we will cover costs using principles of mutual aid, solidarity, and mutual support. With donations, we will be able to purchase food for shared meals, acquire supplies (white boards, markers, etc), and provide travel support for participants from marginalized, racialized, and targeted communities. Without donations, the gathering will be less equitable and less enjoyable.
- We suggest a $25 contribution for each participant; however, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
