On the night of August 6, there was a small fire at the shop. Thankfully, no one was there at the time and no one was hurt — the damage was limited to our dust collector, which was destroyed.

We're incredibly grateful it wasn't worse. Thank you to the amazing businesses next door who were still there and spotted it and called the fire department. And a huge thank-you to the fire department for their quick response. Because it was spotted and dealt with quickly we only lost the dust collection, and it didn't spread to the main building.

The dust collector is essential to how we operate safely day to day, and replacing it will cost approximately $10,000. To keep our programs running without interruption, we're reaching out to our community of volunteers and donors to ask for support. Until we have this in place our operation is at a standstill. We won't be able to sand the little toy cars until we can get this up and running again. At a rate of 2,500 cars per week, the longer we are out of commission the further behind we get for Christmas and toys for the children.
