Help Us Build a Roman Inspired Piazza in the Dust

Out in Deep Playa, where nothing stands and everything is possible, the corner of an imaginary city will appear.

Dusty Corner of the Capital is a large-scale interactive art installation planned for Black Rock City 2026.

It will rise from the desert like a mirage:
a two-story Roman-inspired palazzo façade, built from timber and hand-finished with warm plaster tones, standing on a square of wooden cobblestones inspired by the ancient sanpietrini of Rome.
A balcony crowned with statues will face the sunrise.
An ancient mask will watch over the piazza.
A green-shuttered window will invite curious wanderers to peek outside.

And beside the palazzo stands something even more improbable in the middle of the desert: The Dusty Trattoria.
A place where strangers become neighbors, where pizzas emerge from the fire, and where conversations stretch long into the night under the desert sky.

Together, they form Dusty Corner of the Capital: a fragment of civilization that appears, lives for a week, and then disappears again into dust.

A Piazza for Everyone

Italian piazzas are not monuments to power. They are monuments to life. They are where people gather without invitation. Where musicians play. Where strangers share food and stories. Where the city becomes a living room.

Dusty Corner of the Capital brings that spirit to Burning Man.

Participants will be able to climb the balcony overlooking the playa, explore the palazzo, gather around the Dusty Trattoria, share food, drinks, and conversation with strangers

Built by La Famiglia

This project is created by La Famiglia, a collective of artists, builders, engineers, and dreamers who believe in building beauty together.

Many of us built Dusty Trattoria, which brought wood-fired pizza and Italian piazza culture to Deep Playa.

Now we want to go further.
Much further.

Dusty Corner of the Capital will be larger, more immersive, and climbable, creating a full architectural experience.

But like all Burning Man art, it is:

• built entirely by volunteers

• gifted to the city

• funded by the community

It exists because people believe in building impossible things together.
