Story
Comedy Gives Back is a non-profit founded by Jodi Lieberman, Amber J Lawson and Zoe Friedman (aka JAZ) that solely benefits stand-up comedians in times of need. If you know the work of MusiCares, then you know the work of Comedy Gives Back. The comedy community and stand-up comedians need an organization that is dedicated to making their already hard lives, a little bit easier. Every day, comics work without a safety net. On stage, that’s comedy. Off stage, it’s a tragedy. Comedy Gives Back is about to change all that!
Imagine if Helen Crimmins had a place to come after Barry passed away to help with her medical bills? Or if Comedy Gives Back could have paid for a year of Brody Stevens health insurance once his SAG/AFTRA insurance ran out. We would never presume to be able to change the tragic end to Brody Steven's life but the lack of access to consistent doctors and medication was part of the problem. Unfortunately, these are only two examples of many in a community that has been hit hard.
Comedy Gives Back will serve a need that has been vacant in the comedy community and its services are long overdue.
As the pandemic has shown everyone, we all need help. Not all comedians are household names. Many are struggling just to get by and make the world a better place through laughter. We're here to help. We provide mental health, medical, and crisis support.
