A court has granted a Temporary Restraining Order on the proposed 1114 First Avenue shelter in a case filed by a local homeowners association, and our legal team has now filed a separate action to ensure the community’s concerns are fully heard — creating a critical window to help shape a better outcome.

We are working to ensure decisions at 1114 First Avenue are made transparently, lawfully, and with community input. While the initial lawsuit led to this pause, the case is ongoing and the outcome is not yet determined. This moment allows for meaningful engagement with policymakers and city agencies to ensure proper oversight and safeguards.

The proposed shelter’s size and layout raise serious concerns about basic dignity. Nearly 200 people in dense, dorm-style conditions with limited shared bathrooms is not a humane or sustainable model. Funds raised will support efforts to advocate for a more appropriately scaled, thoughtfully designed facility that people can actually live in and benefit from.

The East Side Accountability Alliance has retained legal counsel and is working to engage Gotham Government Relations to support advocacy during this critical period. This campaign aims to fund approximately six months of legal, advocacy, and government relations efforts.

Contributions will support advocacy, communications, legal work, and engagement with city officials to push for better planning, appropriate scale, and responsible management.

East Side Accountability Alliance is a New York not-for-profit corporation and is not a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Contributions are not tax-deductible.

All donations are voluntary and non-refundable and will be used solely for advocacy, legal, communications, research, and related professional expenses connected to these community efforts. No specific legal or policy outcome is guaranteed.
