ACTIVE SHOOTER: Time + Math A General Study of the Active Shooter Problem and How To Minimize Victims. Led by Ed Monk, subject matter expert

This class is designed to improve and assess the basics of knowledge and planning for defending against an Active Shooter. This class is suitable for school administrators and staff, Shul leadership and security teams, armed guards, and law enforcement officers.

Classroom instruction starts with a broad study of the Active Shooter and his attacks. It exposes our country’s 4-decades failure in responding to it, trends, lessons learned, what is most likely to occur, and how attacks differ in different places. It covers details of over 20 attacks at schools, churches, businesses, government facilities, and other locations. The instructor gives options and recommendations for both organizational & individual response to this threat. Classroom instruction ends with considerations for armed responders. This includes gear, skill, tactics, training, and mindset.

ED MONK is the owner and lead instructor of Last Resort Firearms Training. Utilizing his experience as a police officer, school teacher, firearms trainer, and Army officer, Ed Monk has been researching, writing, and providing training on the Active Shooter threat for over ten years. He has trained the administrative, and armed, staff of public schools, House of Worship security teams, School Resource Officers, and other law enforcement officers, on countering the Active Shooter threat and minimizing losses.

Shmira Public Safety was established as a response to the rise in crime, specifically to those that affected the businesses and families of the heavily Jewish-populated areas that we primarily serve. In addition to providing an overt presence of trained uniformed volunteers throughout our community, Shmira Public Safety has been focused on increasing its relationships, and working in tandem, with Law Enforcement and other Public Safety organizations in our area. We strongly believe that the more we work together, the more we can all do for our community. The word "Shmira" comes from the biblical Hebrew word that means "Safeguarding." While Shmira Public Safety is primarily funded and staffed out of the Jewish community, we are here to serve our entire community, irrespective of faith or affiliation.
