I am retired on a meager fixed income, so this donation is not small change for me, but I want to see the children of our community have a future with easy access to nearby beautiful trails, forests and river for their physical and mental health. The National Parks are being over-run because of an increasing desire for just this experience, so we need to preserve--not decrease--these rare natural places in our backyard. Not to mention the climate and water protection aspects. We need to find an alternative to the "SOPHIE'S CHOICE" imposed on our communities--"your environment or your schools/library/hospital".

Cutting down some of the few remaining old-growth forests is an appalling idea for many reasons and I oppose it.

I recently visited Clallam County to hike the old-growth and legacy forests in the area and, especially, to witness the Elwha River under restoration. I was incredibly fortunate to stay at Wandering Joy Campground, which is adjacent to the Shore Thing U4 legacy forest that community action saved from being logged. I am incredibly grateful to everyone in the community who is working to protect legacy forests. -- David Voelker, Green Bay, WI
