Today, our trans sister needs our help. She left the community in Gorom Refugee Camp in South Sudan, hoping to find a better life in South Africa. We learned on October 18, 2026 that she and her partner have been detained at the border of South Africa. She was able to send us one message through discord:

"Hello lovely friends, i truly love you and miss you so much i wanted to let you know that I and my boyfriend we’re in prison for all this time in so much pain, at the border of South Africa, we were arrested and given a chance to access our phones not until we pleaded and they we can’t be helped anymore, we’re dying, this people have given me one chance to access my phone because i convinced them that when i talk to my friends you will get all the money you need to free us [...]"

Freedom Spectrum of East Africa (FSEA) is a grassroots human rights organization dedicated to protecting and empowering LGBTQIA+ refugees and asylum seekers across East Africa. We have community members on our board and meet weekly online to coordinate with community leaders and volunteers in East Africa.

LGBTQIA+ people face discrimination, criminalization, and unjust detainment across East Africa. This is unfortunately the second time this week alone that we've needed to pay for someone's release. We were able to free the first person but we really need your help this time.

Image description: A water color painting that has been digitally edited to invert the colors. It says "FSEA" in large letters and "Freedom Spectrum of East Africa" below. The background and letters are a dark brown. The letters are outlined in a chalky white. The background has orange and purple with yellow dots, giving it a fiery look.
