Some of my clearest moments as a songwriter have happened far from the noise - on mountain trails, in quiet forests, and in the spaces where cell service disappears and you’re left alone with your thoughts.

Hi, I’m Emily Hicks. I’m a Country/Americana singer-songwriter based in Salt Lake City, and I’m heading back to Nashville this June to record a brand new EP - six songs written in the season of life where you finally stop chasing who you think you should be and start building the life you actually want to live. If you helped bring my debut album Weird Wild Wonderful to life in 2024, this is the next chapter - and if you’re new here, welcome to the adventure.

The Music

The ten songs on Weird Wild Wonderful were written over a transformative time in my life - moving to Utah, getting married, and navigating adulthood for the first time. Though I will always feel connected to the girl who wrote those songs, I’m officially in a new decade of life and am ready to musically explore the outdoorsy, adventure loving, dream-chasing woman I am today.

I have chosen six songs for this project that were all written since turning 30 and settling into a season of asking bigger questions and growing deeper roots. As a collection, this EP will explore anxiety and depression, the grief and freedom that comes with letting go when something isn’t meant for you, finding magic in the everyday, and choosing to build a life that feels aligned with who you are meant to be.

Since the great outdoors have always been my muse, this project will fully lean into the mountain wilderness metaphor. These songs are packed full of nature infused lyrics and melodic runs inspired by birds singing in the trees. The visual branding is still a work in progress, but when I sing these songs, I see mossy forests, fields of wild flowers flourishing in a mountaintop meadow, and the sunlight gently sparkling across the Green River.

My hope with this EP is to build on the heart of what we created with Weird Wild Wonderful all while pushing it forward lyrically and sonically - more confident, more magical, and more rooted in who I am now.

The Recording Plan

In June, I will be returning to Nashville, TN to record with producer Nick Bullock, who also produced Weird Wild Wonderful. Working with Nick again means I can focus fully on the songs, knowing they’re in trusted hands.

We’ll be recording at Freda Recording, a beautiful studio Nick and his wife Meredith built in the Tennessee countryside. It’s a quiet, focused space designed for creativity, with an on-site tiny house that allows the artist to stay fully immersed in the recording process. It’s the perfect environment to slow down and give these songs the time and attention they deserve.

As an independent artist, I handle every part of my career—from writing and performing to recording, releasing, and promoting my music. Crowdfunding allows me to create this EP at a professional level while staying fully independent and creatively in control.
