Enoch Brown Park’s infrastructure reflects another era. Some pathways are uneven and difficult to navigate. Access to memorial areas is limited for individuals with mobility challenges. The playground equipment no longer meets modern safety standards. Bus access is constrained, and parking is limited.

Meanwhile, Franklin County continues to grow and evolve. The number of older adults is increasing. Families include children with unique sensory and mobility needs. Schools seek meaningful outdoor learning experiences.

If this sacred ground is meant to be remembered, it must be accessible. If its legacy is meant to endure, it must be cared for with intention.

Our master plan connects memorial areas, walking paths, gathering spaces, updated playgrounds, and natural features into one cohesive experience. Accessible pathways will allow visitors of all ages and abilities to move safely through the park. Parking will be improved to include ADA spaces and bus access.

At the heart of the vision is a Garden of the Five Senses; a sensory garden designed to be experienced slowly and fully. Visitors will engage with nature through sight, scent, sound, texture, and taste. Gentle sounds, seasonal colors, and natural plantings will create a calm environment that invites people to slow down, explore, breathe, and reconnect.

This land holds memory, emotion, and reflection. A sensory garden belongs in this place because it invites visitors not only to see history, but to feel it.

The garden will compliment and deepen the memorial, extending the meaning of this sacred ground from remembrance into reflection, healing, and shared humanity.
