Help Us Restore Enoree OHV Trail

The storm is over. The damage isn’t.

After Hurricane Helene devastated Enoree OHV Trail, volunteers stepped up.

Southern Trail Advocates and Riders (STAR), alongside a select few dedicated members of the riding community, donated our time, equipment, fuel, and personal funds to help clear the trail system and begin the enormous task of bringing it back.

It was stated by officials that “trails will be closed indefinitely” so we immediately sprang into action and worked to get all 5 SC public OHV trails reopened for riding, way ahead of other recreational trails.

We removed thousands of downed trees—including massive oaks and other mature trees—that blocked and damaged the trail system. It was exhausting, dangerous, time-consuming work, but we kept showing up because Enoree matters to this community.

Based on estimates shared with us by professional contractors, completing that level of storm cleanup commercially could have cost $500,000 or more. Instead, we took on an extraordinary amount of that work, helping preserve a public recreational resource while potentially saving taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.

But clearing the trees was only the beginning.

Enoree’s trail tread suffered significant damage and deterioration. Drainage features need to be restored. Water needs to be properly redirected off the trail. Eroded and damaged sections need professional attention before they become even more expensive and difficult to repair.

Although some riding has been possible since the hurricane, Enoree has been closed more than it has been open.

We don’t want another season—or another year—to pass while these problems continue to grow.

STAR pursued government grant funding to help address South Carolina’s public OHV trail needs, but our project was not selected for funding this cycle—a canoe/kayak trail selected for downed tree removal was selected for the “motorized grant funds” much to our dismay. That means we have a choice: wait for another funding opportunity and another lengthy government process, or once again come together as a riding community and get to work.

We’re choosing to get to work.

Our Goal: Finish What We Started

STAR is raising funds specifically to support the next phase of restoration at Enoree OHV Trail, including:

• Repairing damaged and deteriorated trail tread
• Restoring critical drainage features and water management
• Addressing erosion and storm-related damage
• Supporting equipment, materials, and professional trail work where needed
• Helping create a more sustainable trail that can better withstand future weather events

This isn’t about making Enoree prettier.

It’s about keeping a public OHV trail safe, sustainable, and OPEN.

Every donation helps move us closer to that goal. And every rider, family, club, business, and supporter who contributes becomes part of the effort to protect one of South Carolina’s public riding opportunities.

Our volunteers have already shown what this community can accomplish when we work together.
