In a world where the search for home has never felt more urgent, Continuum Vocal Ensemble invites you into a moving choral experience that will explore what it means to be the cast out, the immigrant, to wander, to long for belonging, and to find home again.

From the haunting strains of Wayfaring Stranger to the radiant promise of To the Hands by Continuum composer favorite Caroline Shaw, this program weaves together voices of exile and arrival, sorrow and resilience, dislocation and grace. Other pieces will include Carlos Cordero’s Ayúdame -- a raw and deeply human cry for compassion from within the immigrant experience; Paris Rutherford's arrangement of the Beatle's classic Blackbird, a song that speaks of finding one’s wings in unfamiliar skies; and North, a cinematic ballad by Sleeping At Last’s Ryan O’Neal, a song that will lead us all home with open-hearted tenderness.

We'll also be premiering the first commissioned piece from our newly launched Continuum Catalyst Campaign, an outreach initiative to fund original choral works from new artistic voices.

This is not just a concert. It is a journey through the landscapes of displacement and return—through music that echoes the stories of refugees, wanderers, and all who have ever felt like strangers in a strange land. Join us as we lift up voices that refuse to be silenced and sing our way toward hope.

The Ensemble: Led by Dr. John McDonald -- Director of Choir and Vocal Studies at Washington University -- Continuum Vocal Ensemble's mission is to bring the experience of transformative choral music to new audiences through innovative pieces in unique settings across St. Louis.

The Experience: Our focus will be the music, but like all of our events, the night is also about the space where we gather, and the people we'll meet. The evening will offer opportunities for meaningful social connection before and during the music, as well as a cash bar.

The Setting: Leaning into our mission to invite you into unique spaces, we'll be gathering this time in an amazing space inside The Post Building, the former home of The Post-Dispatch. The building was recently completely rearchitected as a social hub and events space and features an industrial vibe housed within it’s historical design.
