Expansive Care: Bringing Healing to Women and Girls Across Chicago

For more than six years, Sista Afya Community Care has been transforming mental health care for women and girls in Chicago. We have served more than 2,500 women and girls with affordable, holistic, culturally responsive care rooted in community. Our model works, and it has earned national recognition for innovation in community mental health care for Black women and girls.

But for too many women across Chicago, the road to care still ends at distance, cost, and coverage gaps. As Medicaid and insurance changes put support at risk, the need has never been more urgent.

Our goal is to raise $100,000 by December 31, 2026 to expand care where women live.

Your gift will help us:

Open three new satellite locations for culturally responsive care close to home.
Keep women connected to care when Medicaid or insurance coverage changes.
Create spaces for collective healing, including peer connection, group therapy, and community wellness workshops.
Nurture Black Girls Blossoming, with group therapy and community workshops for girls at a formative age in schools and community-based settings.
Strengthen holistic support, including therapy, peer support, case management, and practical resources that support stability.

What your gift supports:

$5,000 — Build a Satellite Location

Fund the staffing, training, and equipment needed to launch one of Sista Afya's three new satellite locations — putting mental health care directly in the neighborhoods that need it most.

$1,000 — Restore Care After Coverage Loss

Provide 100 free therapy sessions for women who have lost Medicaid or insurance coverage, ensuring a gap in benefits never becomes a gap in care.

$500 — Fund a Group Therapy Session

Host a group therapy session for women and girls addressing the stressors of today — stress management, healthy relationships, and anxiety — in a space built for collective healing.

$250 — Support Black Girls Blossoming

Fund one full session of Black Girls Blossoming, Sista Afya's group dedicated to Black girls on the South Side, nurturing their mental wellness at a formative age.

$100 — Connect a Woman to Care

Support a care coordination session that connects a woman to the basic and critical needs she needs to stabilize her life and her mental health
