The Thought Leadership & Innovation Foundation (TLI) is a not-for-profit organization that works at the nexus of science, technology and public health, innovating for superior prevention, treatment and outcomes for those facing life-altering medical diagnoses. TLI helps patients across the country and around the world find better healthcare outcomes.

The American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF) is a patient-centric foundation that supports potentially game-changing AMD research, education and advocacy in order to improve quality of life and treatment outcomes for all of those affected by AMD.

TLI and AMDF are excited to collaborate and expand our individual capabilities to reach the millions of people who are affected by macular degeneration and build a resource and information platform which will serve as a trusted source of information, support and most importantly, hope for people at risk of or diagnosed with macular degeneration. This collaboration allows us each to broaden our reach, multiply our resources and bring the patient perspective to generate greater awareness and understanding of this disease.

Macular degeneration, also known as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), is a common eye condition that affects the macula, a small area near the center of the retina in the back of the eye. Early AMD often has no symptoms and may not significantly affect vision. It is estimated to affect over 14% of people aged 40 and older and over 30% of people aged 75 and older. Late AMD, which can cause vision loss, is estimated to affect around 1.47% of people aged 40 and older and 5.7% of people aged 75 and older.

The collaboration between TLI and AMDF underscores a shared commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by macular degeneration and help to save sight through building a centralized hub of information and resources which will promote early testing for AMD, early diagnosis, reducing risk or advancement of the disease through diet, current care options and local resources available for support. This platform will make a tangible difference in the quality of life for so many.
