We are now planning our next events, and we need your help!

Flamboyan Winter Market

Concept: A Puerto Rican market featuring artists, a pop-up bookstore, and performances. The raffle would be to raise money for Flamboyan’s 2027 productions and events. We would also create a website to feature Boricua vendors from throughout the diaspora and the island.

Location: TBD

When: December 2026

Time: 3 hours

Features:

-A Bookstore selling books and comics by Boricua artists (this gives us the best opportunity to highlight diaspora and island-based authors)

-An artist market mostly made up of local vendors but also having a virtual component featuring Bori artists outside of NY. There would also be tables for Boricua orgs such as JUPI and Adolfina.

-A performance space for musicians and poets.

-A raffle area where there would be an assortment of Puerto Rican desserts plus a coquito and flan contest

Location: TBD (currently in talks with a venue)

Budget: $3000

$1000 - Musicians

$1000 - Materials

$1000 - Venue and Promotion

Microtheatre Festival

In partnership with Teatro Hispano in Michigan, we would present a simultaneous performance of six 15-minute plays, with three performed in Michigan, and three in New York. The performances would be streamed to the respective theatres and online, so audiences in New York can see the broadcast of the Michigan plays, and audiences in Michigan can see the broadcast of the New York plays, and online audiences can experience both!

Live audience gets to view both a live performance and a broadcast performance (almost like half theatrical/half movie)

Remote audiences will watch a live feed of both presentations.

Plays will be written by authors living in Puerto Rico, and provide them with the opportunity to have their work presented by two theatre companies in the States. The online component also allows them to share these performances with friends and family. Our hope would be to raise enough money to facilitate bringing the playwrights to New York.

Estimated performance date: April 2026

Budget: $12,000
$1000 - venue

$5000 - Cast and Crew

$4000 - Accommodations to bring writers from PR to NY

$2000 - Materials and promotion

Our First Show was a Hit!

On Sept. 26th, 2026 we hosted our first New York event at Loisaida's Sixth Street Community Center! The event was a collaboration with the Brooklyn Chapter of Juventud Unida Por la Independencia (JUPI) in order to raise funds for student groups at the University of Puerto Rico fighting to keep the school accessible for Puerto Rican students, and also to benefit efforts by JUPI to provide water cisterns to communities hit hardest by the water crisis on the island.

By the numbers:

6 performers

4 artist vendors

65 audience members

Social Media engagement 10,000+

The exact number that was raised is still being finalized, as JUPI has to receive percentages from vendors and a local bar, B-Sides, who donated 50% of drinks sales for two specialty cocktails, but preliminary figures are over $500!

We did not receive any money for this event, this was a community effort, and the dollars that already been donated to our campaign were essential to renting the venue and purchasing materials used in the event. Thank you!

For us to continue this good work, we need additional support. Can you give $5? $50? $500?

We want to host winter market music and poetry showcase to close out 2026, and need funds for a venue, to pay performers, promote, and for materials (tables, utensils, drinks, plates, etc).

Finally, we have posted videos from the event to YouTube, which you can watch below, and make sure to follow us on IG @flamboyan_theater for more video content from the evening.
