Freshmen Foundations: Skills for Study, Time, and High School Success

Overview:
This two-session workshop equips high school freshmen with essential skills for success, including time management, effective reading and listening, note taking, study strategies, and communication with teachers. Each student will receive individualized support to develop strategies tailored to their needs.

In the second session, learners will reflect on their progress, explore additional strategies, and gain practical tools to manage their time and studies with confidence.

Registration Deadline: August 21

Pre-Session: August 28 — Last day to complete the Study Skills Survey (link provided in confirmation email.)

Session 1: September 1, 6:00–7:15 PM
Student Brings: Lined notebook, writing utensil(s)
Focus Areas:

Time management and handling phone distractions
Reading and listening skills
Note-taking strategies
First study techniques and personalized advice

Session 2: September 15, 6:00–7:15 PM
Student Brings: Lined notebook, writing utensil(s)
Focus Areas:

Reflection and adjustment of study habits
Expanding study strategies
Identifying school resources
Personalized conferencing and goal-setting

🧠 Students Should:

Ensure they are well-fed, rested, and hydrated.
Bring a notebook or lined paper along with pencils or pens.
Keep mobile phones silenced and stored away during the workshop.
Have a water bottle handy.

⚠️ Space is Limited:
There is a limit of 24 students. No-shows will not be refunded.
Students on the waiting list who do not secure a seat will receive a full refund.
