Samantha Mwangi's Story

Hey everyone!

My decision to join the Foster The Movement 2021 campaign started with an email from Enderly Coffee. This wasn’t one of their highly anticipated emails about Friday Home Delivery with baked goods. Instead, the email subject read “You are Invited to Change The World! Foster Village Charlotte 2021!” Of course I opened it, because I could never pass up a personal invitation to change the world.

For those who don’t know, Enderly Coffee is an amazing, family-owned coffee roaster based in Charlotte, NC. Their motto is “People first. Coffee always.” Last year, as we were in the process of researching and starting up Be Social Coffee, we came to admire Enderly Coffee and what they stand for. Their dedication to the local community really resonated with us because part of Be Social Coffee’s mission is to support under-resourced communities in the Charlotte area.

So when I read the email, watched the video and researched more about Foster Village Charlotte, I felt the stars align. After spending hours researching, asking questions and talking to others in my network who have experienced the foster care system, I was convinced that the critical work that Foster Village Charlotte is doing deserved my support.

What really stood out to me about Foster Village Charlotte is that they support the caregivers of foster care youth. These caregivers are everyday people in the Charlotte area who have made the brave decision to care for youth who have experienced family instability, academic challenges and other challenges. The youth often enter the foster care system with few belongings and little notice.

From Foster Village Charlotte:

“Research has also demonstrated that children in foster care achieve better outcomes when they experience stable placements, and that support to foster parents is associated with improved foster parent retention and decreased placement failure. We believe that the role of the caregiver is critical to ensuring a child’s long-term success – we know that safe, caring relationships with trusted adults can impact and even prevent the damaging long-term effects of childhood trauma. We also believe caregivers shouldn’t have to do this alone. FVC creates connections with dignity for all children and families experiencing foster care by meeting urgent needs, providing education and emotional support, and advocating as a collective community voice.”

Every child deserves a village of support. Your donation will go toward equipping, connecting and advocating for foster families who are the first responders to Charlotte’s most vulnerable children.

Will you Foster The Movement with me and help me raise $600 for Foster Village Charlotte? This amount will equip caregivers with necessities and resources, such as Welcome Packs, carseats, and sensory tools so they can focus on helping the children in their care thrive.

I appreciate your support,

Samantha
