At a time when histories are being erased, banned, and rewritten in classrooms and public life, something deeper is being lost: the memory of how Black × Brown communities once stood together. Not in theory. In practice. Before those stories disappear from living memory, they must be recovered, activated, and carried forward.

BlindianProject is building the cultural infrastructure to do exactly that. We recover and activate overlooked histories of Black × Brown solidarity—histories that shaped the 20th century but rarely appear in textbooks, archives, or public memory. This is not preservation for its own sake. It is about making these histories usable again—through culture, education, and lived experience.

This work is already underway through public talks, cultural gatherings, youth programming, and artistic projects that bring these histories into classrooms, kitchens, and cultural spaces. Our approach sits at the intersection of public humanities, culture, and civic engagement—using food, art, media, and archival research to translate history into something people can feel, participate in, and carry forward.

One example is Taste Buds—a pilot youth program developed in partnership with Dream Big Youth Foundation. Through shared meals, cultural encounters, and exposure to new environments, young people engage Black × Brown histories and communities they might not otherwise encounter—expanding curiosity, belonging, and possibility. The pilot currently works with youth across DBYF’s communities in North Chicago, Waukegan, Beach Park, Zion, and Round Lake.

This pilot phase allows the program to be refined through participant feedback and learning outcomes before expanding to additional communities.

Alongside this, BlindianProject is building a growing archive of Black × Brown solidarity histories, expanding youth cultural literacy programs like Taste Buds, and creating public conversations and cultural experiences that bring these histories into everyday life.

This work is grounded in a simple belief: Solidarity cannot survive without memory. And culture is the infrastructure that carries it forward.
