ABOUT US

Founded in 2004 by Christopher P. A. Seltzer, the Freestyle Percussion Foundation is a nonprofit organization based in Birmingham, Alabama, with a mission to foster holistic positivity, encourage character building, promote scholarship, and enhance leadership skills among youth and young adults through the utilization of music, arts and dance. Recognizing the positive impact that music can have on personal development, our organization provides accessible, high-quality drum and percussion training to students from underserved communities at 50-60% below market value. Through structured lessons, community performances, and leadership opportunities, we help students build confidence, discipline, and a sense of belonging. Our programs cater to various skill levels offering a path for students to explore their passion, pursue scholarships, and, for some, prepare for careers in music. With a strong focus on our four core pillars of Discipline, Commitment, Confidence, and Excellence, our efforts have not only cultivated skilled musicians but have also contributed to reducing crime and creating pathways for youth to thrive into well-rounded individuals who are ready to make positive contributions to their communities.
