Story
In 2009, Freedom Preparatory Academy welcomed 90 students in Southwest Memphis, committed to preparing Pre-K through 12th-grade students for success in college and life. Today, with five schools and over 2,000 students, Freedom Prep is transforming the lives and community of Whitehaven and Westwood!
Founded by Roblin Webb, a native of Camden, Arkansas, who recognized the urgent need for equitable education in the South, Freedom Prep has achieved remarkable results. In a state where Tennessee saw a college-going rate of 44% for Black students in 2021, Freedom Prep continuously defies the odds, boasting a remarkable 100% college admission rate for all seven classes of our graduating seniors!
Roblin's journey began at Rhodes College in Memphis, but her passion for civil rights and social justice led her to law school at Rutgers University. Returning to the South, she shifted her career focus to education, creating an organization dedicated to transforming education for students of color across the South.
As Freedom Prep eagerly approaches our 15-year milestone, we are on the cusp of bringing transformational change to elementary school students in Birmingham, Alabama, as we prepare to open the doors to the inaugural FPA Alabama campus in August 2024.
Join us in our Every Day giving campaign, and together, we will carry the torch of the civil rights movement and help to realize its dream!
Your contribution, no matter the size, is a step towards creating a brighter future for all. Thank you for joining our freedom movement!
