Beaver County Marcellus Awareness Community (BCMAC) is excited to announce a Free Little Library program! Our goal is to construct book-sharing boxes without the use of plastics. These boxes will be open seven days a week, 24 hours a day and are freely accessible to all, removing barriers to book access. Anyone may take a book or bring a book to share!

We believe that children and young people deserve access to high-quality, age-appropriate education about the environment in order to thrive in the world they're growing up in—and in order to help create the climate solutions we need. This is why our Free Little Library program will focus on Environmental Education.

Environmental Education is shown to improve:

Knowledge in science, mathematics, reading, writing, and more
Emotional and social skills, such as self-esteem, character development, team work, and leadership skills
Environmentally friendly behavior, such as reducing water use, increasing recycling, and participating in community cleanups
Academic skills (21st Century skills), such as critical thinking, oral communication, analytical skills, problem solving, and higher-order thinking
Motivation to learn, including enthusiasm for and interest in school
Civic interest and engagement, including feelings of civic responsibility, feelings of empowerment, and ability to take action

Join us to launch our FIRST Free Little Library at the Monaca Riverfront Park! We will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and then have various activities available for children.

Tickets are free, but donations are encouraged. Donations from this event will help ensure that we can get a Free Little Library in more Beaver County communities. The funds from this page will go towards plastic-free construction, purchasing books and throwing launch events for each new library. If you cannot join the event, please still consider donating!

ADDITIONAL INFO:

• Our Free Little Libraries will be constructed by carpenter Tyler Tournay of Hopewell Township.

• This event occurs outdoors and is weather-dependant.

• The event location is accessible and there is free parking on-site.

• Non-alcoholic drinks and kids activities will be provided.

• Covid testing prior to attendance is appreciated, masks are encouraged and please please please stay home if you're not feeling well.

• This is a kid-friendly and encouraged event; but please note that childcare will not be provided.
