About the Partnership

The Center for Grieving Children is proud to partner with Sailing Ships Maine to provide a week of summer programming for youth in the Center’s peer support services—at no cost to participating families.

This collaboration brings together two missions: supporting the safe expression of grief and loss, while building confidence, leadership, and connection through shared experience.

The Experience

Students will sail aboard six-passenger vessels with licensed professional mariners, living and working together as a crew. Over the course of the week, they will learn nautical skills, explore the Maine coast, and build meaningful friendships.

Removed from the distractions of daily life, participants have the opportunity to disconnect from social media and reconnect with themselves, each other, and the natural world.

For youth navigating grief, sharing this experience with peers who understand their journey is especially powerful.

Impact

Through this program, participants will:

Build self-confidence, leadership, and teamwork skills
Form strong peer connections with other grieving youth
Gain hands-on sailing and environmental knowledge
Experience a supportive space that encourages healthy expression of grief
