Who We Are and What We Do

We focus on meeting individual needs out in the community and building working relationships with individuals experiencing homelessness in Corpus Christi. We provide resources like clothing, shoes, hygiene, first aid, school supplies, pet food, ready-to-eat meals, and groceries. We also host social services like STI testing, career development, first aid, marketplace healthcare assistance, and Medicare/Medicaid assistance. By assisting individuals, we are able to help people transition into housing. Our donations from the community allow us to provide house goods, beds, ac units, furniture, children's toys, baby cribs, and bouncers. We form relationships with formerly unhoused individuals to assist in maintaining their homes, by identifying any potential problems that may arise, like rent increases, food insecurity, mental health crisis, health problems and substance abuse disorders. We assist in advocating and directing individuals to appropriate non-profits when available.

Poverty Awareness and Advocacy: We work in collaboration with a wide array of non-profit organizations and local groups. We have a working relationship with The Salvation Army of the Coastal Bend, NextGen America, Coastal Community Defense League, Corpus Christi Street Medics, Esperanza de Tejas, Coastal Bend Strong Roots, and Indigenous People of the Coastal Bend.

Radical Hospitality: The term “radical hospitality” can be defined as a practice of putting extraordinary effort and emphasis on making people feel welcome. This concept is often referred to as “radical welcome,” and focuses on breaking down barriers that prevent people from participating in an effort, campaign, or community.

We staunchly follow radical hospitality practices and base our services around this notion. By doing so, we are able to effectively communicate with individuals, to better understand their unique situations, so we can best serve each person. Safety is very important to our mission, so we create and maintain a safe environment for both shoppers and volunteers alike during free store family picnics.
