Why fundraise for cars?

The first thing that comes to mind when we think of reasons to purchase a vehicle in normal civilian life is for convenience and comfort. However, when we raise funds for means of transportation in times of war, the primary purpose is evacuation and mobility in the dangerous areas. Ukrainian defenders are faced with challenging tasks, and being able to get back to safety in a timely manner is critical to their safety. Ukrainian volunteers that bring aid to the front lines are subject to many of the same dangers as the defenders, and are in a similar need for reliable and agile transportation. Real life examples:

1. Cars for defenders:

The Kostyantyn Ostrozki Brigade #30 participated in the liberation of Izyum. They successfully completed their mission, but had to wait 5 hours to be evacuated carrying the wounded, ammo and gear on foot. We contributed to the fundraiser for the 30th Brigade, organized by local Ukrainian volunteers in Cherkasy Oblast. The 30th brigade was able to get an off-road vehicle, a Hyundai Terracan, that saved many lives before being damaged in Bakhmut. Sunflower Seeds Ukraine has also helped with the delivery of two cars (a pickup and a van), full of food and protective gear for our defenders. It all went to the 128th Territorial Defense Battalion in the Kharkiv region, where our former volunteer Roman Krasovskyi (who is now a unit commander at the frontline) and his unit are.

2. Cars for volunteers:

Every 10-14 days, a team of volunteers “We Are United Ukraine” from Cherkasy region makes deliveries to positions where the postal service does not reach because of shelling. These brave volunteers load their van with supplies and take the necessities where help is scarce and so needed. Right now they use a large van to make their deliveries. Due to its size and weight, they often get stuck while offroading to get closer to the soldiers, where it gets dangerous really quickly– even the road to Bakhmut is a target. Their van had to be pulled out with tanks one too many times, so the solution they have come up with is to get a smaller and lighter car that can more easily make the trips between the van full of supplies and soldiers’ positions.

3. Car maintenance and repair:

After vigorous service, most cars are in desperate need of numerous repairs to keep them running in the future missions. Sometimes it's as simple and replacing the tires damages by running on the shrapnel or straightening the door that no longer opens after a crash. And sometimes it's as major as replacing an engine or overhauling a transmission! To address these needs, a group of volunteers in Cherkasy Oblast took upon a challenging task of repairing and maintaining the vehicles that were purchased or donated to the Ukrainian Army forces. They already fixed and sent 4 cars back to the front, but they ned help with purchasing parts, because there are more cars to come! To support this part of the project please go to:
