Art Without Barriers

Painted Beauty grew from two parts of my life that have always mattered deeply to me: art and special education.

I am an artist and a former special education teacher, and over the years I have seen how often people with disabilities are surrounded by expectations about what they can do, how they should participate, or what their work should look like. Painted Beauty was created from a different belief:

Every artist deserves the freedom to express their artistic voice, regardless of disability.

I want to create a place where adults with disabilities can explore what they have inside of them creatively — without judgment, unnecessary limitations, or pressure to create in a certain way.

What Painted Beauty Will Be

Painted Beauty is developing an inclusive art studio and gallery designed to support creativity, independence, and uninhibited self-expression.

The studio will offer:

Accessible open studio time for members
Art classes and workshops taught by local artists
Adaptive tables, seating, easels, tools, and work areas
Accessible sinks and thoughtfully designed studio spaces
Basic paints, brushes, paper, and shared art materials
Storage for works in progress
A calm, welcoming environment with room for artists who may prefer to work independently
Opportunities for artists to display and sell their work

The goal is not to tell people what to create.

The goal is to give them the space, materials, support, and freedom to discover what they want to create.

Help Us Build the First Painted Beauty Studio

Painted Beauty is currently in its startup phase. Our next major goal is to lease and equip our first studio space — approximately 2,500–3,000 square feet — and prepare it to serve artists safely and comfortably.

Donations will help fund real startup needs, including:

Security deposit and initial rent
ADA modifications
Studio buildout and flooring
Adjustable tables and adaptive seating
Easels and adaptive art tools
Accessible utility sinks
Storage systems
Gallery display equipment
Paints, brushes, paper, canvases, and other art supplies
Insurance, utilities, and other costs required to open the doors

Some people prefer to make a financial contribution. Others may want to purchase or donate an actual studio item. Both can make a meaningful difference, and we will be developing a wish list of specific items needed to help build the studio.

Why This Matters

Art can communicate things that words cannot.

I am especially interested in what happens when people who have encountered barriers throughout their lives are given genuine artistic freedom.

What will they paint?

What will they build?

What ideas have been waiting for the opportunity to come out?

Painted Beauty is about creating the conditions for those discoveries to happen — and then giving those artists a place where their work can be seen, valued, and celebrated.
