The Need for Independent Journalism

At a time of growing authoritarianism, concentrated corporate power, war, inequality and accelerating climate crisis, independent journalism has never been more essential. Squeaky Wheel Production's flagship radio newsmagazine, Between The Lines provides timely, in-depth progressive reporting and analysis that challenges conventional narratives and amplifies the voices of activists, organizers, journalists and scholars working for social change.

Our Current Limitations

Between The Lines is produced entirely by an unpaid, all-volunteer team whose limited resources restrict how widely we can distribute and promote our journalism.
We need to modernize and expand our digital presence to reach younger and more diverse audiences through podcasts, video and social media.
Additional financial resources will help us strengthen our production, distribution and outreach while preserving our editorial independence.

Our Vision for Public Affairs

Expand the reach of our weekly broadcasts, interviews and progressive analysis across radio, podcasts, video, social media and other digital platforms.
Put reliable, timely information directly into the hands of activists, organizers and communities fighting for democracy, social and economic justice, peace and a livable planet.
Build a stronger independent-media network capable of challenging corporate media narratives and connecting movements and communities with ideas that inspire informed action.

Your Impact

Your contribution helps keep Between The Lines independent, accessible and accountable to our listeners — not corporations or wealthy interests.
Your support enables our volunteer producers to bring underreported stories and progressive voices to audiences across the country every week.
Every gift helps us expand our reach and ensure that people working for meaningful change have access to the information, analysis and voices they need.
Our goal is to raise $35,000 over the two fiscal years that overlap our 35th anniversary calendar year—2026. We now have an infusion of additional matching funds for our 2026-'27 FY from a longtime listener in Westbrook, CT!
Help us meet our goal of $35,000 by the end of our fiscal year on June 30, 2027—and DOUBLE YOUR GIFT's IMPACT.

Support Our Mission

Join a Growing Movement

We have already reached 62% of our initial fundraising goal thanks to the support of early contributors.

Supporting Between The Lines means becoming part of a broader movement committed to independent journalism, democracy, justice, peace and environmental sustainability.
Together, we can strengthen the alternative media institutions needed to challenge concentrated political, corporate and media power.
After 35 years, we remain convinced that informed people working together can change the world — and independent media can help make that change possible.
Join us on Oct. 17, 2026 for a special event marking our 35th anniversary with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Chris Hedges delivering a keynote address: "The Next Election May Be Our Last: Why a General Strike is Democracy's Last Line of Defense Against Fascism" at 425 College St., New Haven, CT from 2-4 p.m.
