The History

The original “Prince of Front Street” mural was painted by Evan Lovett (the founder of VURT Creative) and Glossblack in 2017. This was a self funded mural, a true labor of love and admiration for a species that we share space with every day, and yet, remains mostly dismissed. This mural celebrates the beauty and elegance of the pigeon, and it was a favorite amongst Lovett’s “Local Critters” series. As it goes in most metropolitan areas, change and construction claimed this beloved mural, now leaving just the Prince’s face peeking out from behind new construction.

Our Goal

We've heard your cries about the fate of the original pigeon mural, The Prince of Front Street, and we echo them. As mural artists, we are perpetually aware of the heart breaking fact that most of our work could be covered by new construction. It's an uncomfortable reality for an artist, but one that we have come to expect, because progress and change are inevitable in a large city like ours.

But that doesn't mean that progress excludes us. We strive to create our own opportunities, and reviving this beloved mural is just that: an opportunity to bring not one, but two, new pigeon murals to neighborhoods in Philadelphia.
