Our Community Is at a Crossroads

For generations, Black farmers have helped sustain South Carolina’s rural communities, local economies, and food systems. Yet historic inequities, land loss, limited access to capital, and increasing economic pressures continue to threaten the future of Black-owned farms.

The South Carolina Black Farmers Coalition Foundation is working to change that. By raising funds to support the Coalition’s programs and strengthen the Foundation team behind the work, we can connect more farmers and landowners with education, technical assistance, advocacy, resources, and opportunities to succeed.

This is about more than farming—it is about protecting family land, preserving agricultural legacies, and building stronger communities for generations to come.

The Current Need

Data shows that land loss among Black farmers has reached a critical point over the last century. Today, our local farmers face several immediate limitations:

Lack of access to modern agricultural technology and equipment.
Limited funding for sustainable irrigation and soil health initiatives.
Barriers to legal services for land title preservation and estate planning.

Our Vision for Growth

We are raising funds to support the programs of the South Carolina Black Farmers Coalition and strengthen the Foundation staff needed to manage, coordinate, and expand this important work. Your contribution will help us reach more farmers and landowners across South Carolina through:

Technical Assistance: Providing hands-on training, educational resources, and support for sustainable and profitable farming practices.
Land Retention and Legal Education: Supporting workshops and resources that help families address heirs’ property, estate planning, and the prevention of land loss.
Farmer Programs and Resources: Expanding Coalition programs that connect farmers with funding opportunities, markets, equipment, technical experts, and other essential resources.
Foundation Staffing and Operations: Supporting the staff and administrative capacity required to manage programs, pursue funding, maintain compliance, coordinate partnerships, and serve farmers effectively.
