Story
Join us and 300 children in ensuring that our weekly donation tables are stocked with fruit, vegetables and herbs for community members in need.
This year, the Garden Kitchen Lab harvest was plentiful. We were able to extend our gardening staff’s hours beyond the regular class time so they could tend to the gardens more frequently. The extra attention paid off with bountiful produce that not only supported the activities of the children enrolled in our after-school programs and summer camps but ensured weekly distribution of excess produce to the local communities surrounding our garden sites.
The ability to stock our donation table with fruits, vegetables and herbs was a direct consequence of the additional gardening time that was made possible by generous support from individual donors like you, who supplemented the program grants that pay for class-related expenses. Please help us ensure that we can re-start this important program in the spring!
We’re launching a #Giving Tuesday fundraiser to raise $5,000 that will help ensure that we continue to have plenty of fruits, vegetables and herbs to support our educational programs and to continue our weekly food donation program.
Garden Kitchen Lab is a backyard-to-table, science-based, hands-on educational experience for children in NYC's underserved communities. We have programs in Brooklyn (Crown Heights, Sunset Park, Greenpoint), the Bronx (Hunts Point) and Manhattan (Inwood). Our programs are free for all children who attend.
The current economic context heightens the importance of our mission. The rise of basic food costs and the growing risk of a recession make it even more crucial for children and their families to understand the links between food production, nutrition, the environment and their health – and to have access to the healthy foods that are so scarce in the food deserts in which we operate.
Join the #GivingTuesday movement and help us give over 300 children from underserved communities across NYC access to the Garden Kitchen Lab backyard-to-table STEAM program in 2023, and to support the donation of produce to local families in need!
