Meet K9 Skye Blue: Houston’s Next Hope on Four Paws

K9 Skye Blue has already captured hearts with her long velvet ears, determined nose, and unmistakable Bloodhound spirit. But K9 Skye is more than a sweet puppy, she represents the future of search efforts for Houston’s missing.

Skye is a purebred AKC registered Black and Tan Bloodhound, born with one extraordinary gift: an unparalleled sense of smell. She is being trained in scent discrimination, a single, highly specialized discipline that allows her to track an individual based solely on their unique scent, with the goal of finding missing persons swiftly and safely, while they are still alive.

Every day, K9 Skye works alongside her trainer, learning to follow scent trails through busy streets, dense woods, muddy fields, and unpredictable conditions. A Bloodhound’s purpose is to find, and K9 Skye is already showing she was born for this work.

When she completes her training at the end of April, K9 Skye will join our search and rescue team, responding alongside law enforcement and volunteers to help bring missing people home. Families in the autism, Alzheimer’s, dementia, and IDD communities live with the real risk of wandering. A trained search dog gives Houston a critical tool to locate vulnerable missing individuals quickly, often in the moments when time matters most.

Making sure Skye is mission-ready takes resources: specialized training, veterinary care, equipment, transportation, and ongoing operational support. Every donation ensures that K9 Skye grows into the confident, capable, and life-saving K9 Houston needs.
