WHEN DISASTER STRIKES

As we saw with Hurricane Helene in September of 2024 and Winter Storm Jett in February of 2025, rural communities face unique and difficult challenges on the path to recovery. With complicated Federal funding formulas that often disqualify less affluent communities and slow legislative processes that can delay local funding, United Way of Southwest Virginia has a critical role in helping communities recover from disasters through immediate direct support as well as long-term recovery efforts.

THE POWER OF MANY

United Way of Southwest Virginia can mobilize an incredible number of people through its workplace giving campaigns, online giving, and local philanthropy. By partnering with local schools, employers, and government agencies, United Way of Southwest Virginia gives everyone a way to help those most in need.

HEALTH, EDUCATION, FINANCIAL STABILITY

United Way of Southwest Virginia is known for investing in innovative programs and initiatives across our three impact areas. Through thoughtful, data-informed studies to access basic needs, we are working to address the most critical issues facing the residents in our communities.

SERVICE AREA

With a footprint covering over 20% of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United Way of Southwest Virginia supports the counties of Bland, Buchanan, Carroll, Dickenson, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Lee, Montgomery, Pulaski, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, and Wythe, and the cities of Bristol, Galax, Norton, and Radford.
